Temporal and spatial segregation of top predators (Felidae) in a Mexican tropical Biosphere Reserve

چکیده

Jaguars, Panthera onca (Linnaeus, 1758), and pumas, Puma concolor 1771) are the largest felids in neotropics. Both can overlap niche axes (time, space prey), therefore potentially competing species. Segregation mechanisms presented by a low one of these facilitate coexistence. Our aim was to analyze jaguar puma temporal spatial for understanding their segregation mechanisms. Between 2015 2017, twenty-six camera trap stations were located five habitat types El Cielo Biosphere Reserve (ECBR) northeastern Mexico. Temporal activity analyzed using circular statistics time analysis. Spatial calculated with Pianka index selectivity results showed that jaguars pumas nocturnal high (? 4 = 0.77). We found an intermediate (Pianka 0.61). Jaguars more selective preferred deciduous forest. In comparison, oak-pine forest, but also used oak indicate best explains coexistence our study area, probably due both diversity reserve generalist habits puma.

Spatial Segregation in Demography: A Short Review

Abstract. Spatial has always been an inherent component of demography, and demographic processes are inherently spatiotemporal. Recognizing the importance of spatial in general and spatial segregation in particular in demographic analysis has created new positions in demography and its conceptual and analytical frameworks. The notion of spatial segregation refers to the distribution of social...

Spatial and temporal variation of fish assemblages in a coastal lagoon of the Biosphere Reserve La Encrucijada, Chiapas, Mexico.

Composition and abundance of the ichthyofauna in estuarine and coastal lagoon systems of the South Pacific in Mexico have been scarcely studied. In particular, there is a lack of information on how environmental variables determine the spatio-temporal structure of fish assemblages in those habitats. In this study, fishes were sampled by drop net during twelve months (May 2004 - April 2005) in 2...

Temporal Dynamics of Top Predators Interactions in the Barents Sea

The Barents Sea system is often depicted as a simple food web in terms of number of dominant feeding links. The most conspicuous feeding link is between the Northeast Arctic cod Gadus morhua, the world's largest cod stock which is presently at a historical high level, and capelin Mallotus villosus. The system also holds diverse seabird and marine mammal communities. Previous diet studies may su...

Occurrence of culturable soil fungi in a tropical moist deciduous forest Similipal Biosphere Reserve, Odisha, India

Similipal Biosphere Reserve (SBR) is a tropical moist deciduous forest dominated by the species Shorea robusta . To the best of our knowledge their rich biodiversity has not been explored in term of its microbial wealth. In the present investigation, soil samples were collected from ten selected sites inside SBR and studied for their physicochemical parameters and culturable soil fungal diversi...

Arasbaran protected area is located in NW Iran, is one of nine designated Biosphere Reserves in Iran. According to the literatures and the current study, 1067 plant taxa are identified in the area. Eighteen plant taxa of the area are endemic to Iran. Hemicryptophytes (42.5 %) are the most frequent life forms in the reserve followed by therophytes (25.8 %), cryptophytes (18.8 %), phanerophytes (...
